This newsletter from Renate who saved the University of Fondwa during the political
upheaval with Aristide gives a good report of the crisis Haiti is facing from four
hurricanes in a row. Schools were five weeks late in opening. Haiti is in dire need
of outside financial support. The day when the Sisters brought a truck load of food
from the Program "FOOD FOR THE POOR" they shared some with some families. The next
day over three hundred people showed up demanding food. To prevent a riot I told her
to give them food and I would give her $1,000 to replace it. Many of the crops have
been destroyed and the food situation will become more critical until the next harvest.

In 2004 Haiti celebrated it 200 years of Independence being the first
group of slaves to win their independence defeating the French. Spanish and
English over a period of 13 years for which they are still being punished. That
is why Haiti is the poorest country in the hemisphere and the 4th poorest in the
world. 80% of Haitians survive on less than two dollars a day. In 2004 Bust
started the Revolution of Justice and Love in Haiti to held them complete their
God call to be revolutionary leaders. After two hundred years of political
independence they realize that political independence is not enough. Haiti
today is two countries, Port-au-Prince where two million people live in a city
built for 100,000 and the rest of the country which is rural where six million
people live. Two weeks ago the REVOLUTION FOR JUSTICE AN LOVE became visible.
The first National Congress of Peasants was held
here in Fondwa where nearly 800 people came representing every Department in
Haiti. A Department is like our state. The great demand was that the National
government establish a Ministry to represent the needs of the Peasants. The
rural areas receive no assistance from the National Government.
